Laser Treatments

How do they work?
Laser dermatology treatments involve the use of concentrated, controlled beams of light to treat a variety of skin conditions. These procedures are performed by dermatologists and can be used for medical, aesthetic, or both.
There are different types of dermatological lasers, each with its own characteristics and wavelengths suited to specific skin targets. Below, we've listed some examples of the most popular dermatological laser treatments here at Clínica Fabio Carramaschi:
Hair removal: Lasers can be used to permanently or temporarily remove unwanted body hair. Dark pigment in the hair absorbs the laser energy, damaging the hair follicle and inhibiting hair growth.
Skin rejuvenation: Some lasers can stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture and appearance. These treatments are used to reduce wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, and pigmented spots.
Treatment of pigmented spots and lesions: Certain lasers selectively target the melanin present in pigmented spots and lesions, such as freckles, age spots and melasma, helping to lighten and even out skin tone.
Treatment of blood vessels and vascular lesions: Lasers can be used to treat dilated blood vessels, such as facial telangiectasias (spider veins) or rosacea, by clotting the blood and subsequently reducing the visible vessels.

Pretreatment
It's important to have a dermatologist evaluate you before the procedure so they can recommend the appropriate laser for each complaint. Patients have different characteristics, and tailoring the treatment is essential for best results. Generally, no specific preparation is required; topical anesthetic can be used for greater comfort during the procedure.
Post-treatment
Sensitivity varies from person to person, and if necessary, the doctor may use topical anesthetics and/or pain relievers to minimize discomfort. You may experience slight burning or redness for a few hours after the procedure, and it's recommended to avoid sun exposure for the first few days.
